Dog Rules at New Brighton Beach

The essential guide to enjoying the coast with your four-legged friends, including summer bans and the best local walks.

Are Dogs Allowed on New Brighton Beach?

Yes, New Brighton is an incredibly popular destination for dog walkers across the Wirral and Merseyside. With miles of sandy coastline, it's a fantastic spot to let your dog burn off some energy. However, like many UK beaches, there are strict seasonal rules in place to protect bathers during the busy summer months.

The Summer Ban (May 1st - September 30th)

During the summer season, dogs are strictly banned from the main bathing beach. This restricted zone is clearly signposted and is enforced by local wardens. If you are caught exercising your dog in this area during the restricted dates, you may be issued a fine.

  • Dates: 1st May to 30th September.
  • Area: The main bathing beach (look out for the signs near the slipways and main entrances).
  • Alternative: Even during summer, you can walk your dog on the beach *outside* of the designated bathing zone. Walk further down towards Harrison Drive (Wallasey) or Egremont where restrictions lift.

Winter Access (October 1st - April 30th)

Once the summer crowds depart, the entire beach is handed back to dog walkers! From October through April, your dog is welcome everywhere on the sand, making it a perfect spot for brisk winter walks.

Promenade and Coastal Path Rules

If you prefer keeping to the paved surfaces, the miles of promenade stretching from New Brighton towards Seacombe are fantastic for dog walking. The rule here is simple: dogs must be kept on a lead at all times on the promenade, regardless of the time of year.

Dog-Friendly Pitstops

After a long walk, you'll be glad to know that New Brighton has several dog-friendly establishments where you can grab a coffee or a bite to eat.

  • Marine Point: While many inside areas are restricted, there is plenty of outdoor seating around the cafes at Marine Point where dogs are welcome.
  • Local Pubs: Several traditional pubs set slightly back from the seafront are dog-friendly in their bar areas—just look for the water bowls outside!

Leave Only Paw Prints

Please remember to clean up after your dog. There are numerous red dog waste bins located all along the promenade and at the beach entrances. Let's keep New Brighton beautiful for everyone.
