Accessible New Brighton Beach

Everything you need to know about wheelchair access, flat promenades, and accessible facilities.

An Inclusive Destination

New Brighton is widely considered one of the most accessible coastal resorts in the North West. Following extensive regeneration, the area features smooth surfaces, wide pathways, and excellent facilities designed with accessibility in mind.

The Promenade & Walkways

The Marine Promenade is the highlight for visitors with mobility aids.

  • Flat and Wide: The entire stretch from Seacombe Ferry Terminal all the way past Fort Perch Rock to the Derby Pool is completely flat, wide, and paved with smooth tarmac.
  • No Steps: You can enjoy uninterrupted sea views for miles without encountering a single step.
  • Seating: There are numerous benches situated along the promenade for resting while enjoying the views of the Liverpool skyline.

Getting Onto the Beach

While the promenade is fully accessible, accessing the sandy beach itself presents the usual challenges.

  • Access Ramps: There are several concrete slipways and ramps leading from the promenade down to the beach level, particularly near Fort Perch Rock and the Lifeguard station.
  • Sand Navigation: As with most natural beaches, standard wheelchairs will struggle in the soft sand. Currently, there is no permanent beach matting installed.

Disabled Parking (Blue Badge)

Parking with a Blue Badge is well-catered for across New Brighton:

  • Marine Point: Dedicated accessible parking bays are available close to the shops, cinema, and restaurants. The entire complex is flat with dropped kerbs.
  • Coastal Drive: There are numerous parking spaces right along the sea wall, allowing you to park and view the sea without even leaving your vehicle.

Accessible Toilets & Changing Places

Finding suitable facilities is easy in the main tourist area:

  • Marine Point Facilities: Accessible toilets are available within the Morrisons supermarket and at various restaurants and leisure venues (like the cinema) in the Marine Point development.
  • Floral Pavilion: The Floral Pavilion Theatre has fully accessible public toilets on the ground floor, which are normally open during the daytime.
  • Public Conveniences: The dedicated public toilets on the promenade near the Marine Lake also include accessible cubicles (RADAR key may be required).

Need Assistance?

Most of the modern venues around Marine Point, including the Floral Pavilion Theatre, are fully DDA compliant with lift access where necessary. The staff are generally very accommodating if you call ahead with specific requirements.
